The GEN opus consistently adopts an artistic stance that dispenses with any soloistic contribution and thus condenses into a hypnotizing 27-minute suite. GEN presents rhythmically, sonically and conceptually almost all elements that characterize the term TONUS-MUSIC and forms the birth of this European minimal groove music.
This music is unique in the Helvetian musical landscape: Don Li bundles the most diverse influences into a sound cosmos with a strong vision. Li is not an eclecticist, but a fusionist: he doesn’t quote his influences – in the booklet of the new CD „Suun“ he names Steve Reich, Raymond Smullyan, Photek, Miles Davis, Steve Coleman and Lao-Tse – one after the other, but rather combines them to something new…
